WHO ARE WE
Lisbeth Swanson
I established StoryWays Literacy in 2017 following an extensive period of inquiry, collaboration and practice in oral language intervention. I have over 30 years of experience in education, including as a Principal and working across support services. My career began in Scotland, and I have since taught in the USA on the Fulbright programme, in Australia, and for the past 20 years, in NZ. My specific interest in learning difficulties, differences, and behaviour challenges was what led me to storytelling as an inclusive education pedagogy. Liz is a classroom teacher, passionate about bringing a storytelling approach to the forefront of learning and teaching. She has seen first hand where teaching the storytelling way can transform student engagement and accelerate reading and writing outcomes, Liz enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise to help every teacher bring creative and effective teaching to their kete-aronui (basket of pursuit).
Judy Sachdeva
Judy was involved in the development of our organisation right from the start. She has many years of experience as a classroom teacher, Senco, Gifted & Talented coordinator and team leader. Judy achieved excellence in teaching the storytelling way and helped raise the confidence and aptitude of many young writers, as well as storytelling teachers.. Although now retired, Judy has contributed many stories and nonfiction texts to our bank of storytelling materials that support teaching about Aotearoa's unique hi-STORY as it relates to people, time, place and environment.
